• ATPL Pre-Study

PPL student towards the end of the course here. I am looking to start my ATPLs next year and work part-time whilst hour building in between then. Was wondering if it is worth purchasing the current CAE ATPL books and getting ahead on study is this a good idea?

Potentially if you think you can handle the extra workload. The last thing you’d want is to start falling behind with the PPL stuff because you’ve stressed yourself out by starting the ATPLs. Ultimately hour building is going to take months regardless so it’s not like you won’t have time to get them done

        Why the CAE books?

Do you know where you plan to study for the ATPL TK exams? What is THEIR preferred study material? Is it included in the course (presumably that’ll be a yes)?

I’d suggest you concentrate on one module at a time. Finish the PPL then do the night rating (now the clocks have gone back is the ideal time). Hour build and canvas ground school options. Once you decide, see if they’ll give you the course materials when you book ahead of time rather than when the course starts.

One young colleague (he was my ops manager but has downgraded to ops officer and gone part time to study) is currently mid-ATPLs. He is a very bright student but is studying 5 days a week, 8-10 hours a day. You won’t make much of a dent in the workload by pre-studying.

Thanks for the response, apologies but I hadn’t seen it yet.
